How to Prepare Successfully for your DCF Family Assessment

Hello. Thank you for joining me here today. My name is Kevin Seaver. I am a trusted lawyer since 1991, recognized expert, successfully specializing in fighting the Department of Children and Families, more commonly referred to as DCF. I turn DCF negatives into positives throughout the entire state of Massachusetts, in and out of court. Today I want to talk about DCF assessments.

They occur after the department has supported a decision of child abuse and/or neglect. Or it could happen when DCF found a substantiated concern against you. The importance of the assessment is that DCF is going to come out to your home over a 3 month period, 3 times, and interview you and your children. They will speak to collaterals such as doctors, schools as well as after school programs.

You want to make sure you protect your legal rights. When you don’t know what your legal rights are, you have no legal rights. You do that by having a lawyer prepare you so that when you go and you speak to the social worker during the DCF assessment you do not bumble, mumble and stumble.

I will prepare you for each and every time DCF comes out to your home. I will also prepare your children. And when DCF comes out to your home, I will be present when they interview you and your children. That’s very critical and important to make sure we get out all the information DCF requires.

We also want to make sure at the end of the 3 month time period that the assessment is closed with no further services needed or necessary. You do not want DCF hanging around your family. They are not your friend.
