MA DCF Case Study: How Twisted Words Made a Mom’s DCF Neglect Accusations Worse

DCF received a report about Mom’s verbal threats and threatening behavior at home from an intoxicated child. The investigator reached out to the home to further assess the child’s claims of feeling unsafe. The investigator made contact with Mom and began asking questions, to which the mother felt comfortable answering and shared with the DCF worker what she thought was appropriate. However, the situation escalated into a DCF investigation process, as the investigator twisted Mom’s words to paint her in a negative light. As a result, the case remained open and the family was pushed into family services. These services were started to address anger issues on the part of Dad. However, DCF failed to make any recommendations to address their concerns.

Instead, they quickly pushed for adoption, Dad was unavailable to make contact with the Department, however DCF wrongly claimed that Dad made no effort to contact the Department. Therefore, there was no party standing in the way to prevent DCF from having full control over the situation.
