A DCF Expert, Attorney Seaver, Saved My Kid’s Life In My Darkest Day
“It was pretty dark days. I changed my dark days by finding Attorney Seaver. He helped us go through the process with DCF, and he got them in and out of our lives just like he said he would. He told us, “We’re going to bring them in and then we’re going to bring them out and get them out of your lives.” And that’s exactly what happened.
When DCF came into our house before we hired Attorney Seaver, we didn’t understand the process they were putting us through. They asked us a lot of questions that maybe we shouldn’t have answered. I feel like they pushed us in directions that Attorney Seaver didn’t let them go once he was involved. They wanted to talk to us separately. He never let them separate us. He didn’t let them talk to the kids by themselves, and he was always present with us on every visit.
That helped me a lot because I felt like we had someone there who knew the ins and outs of what DCF could and couldn’t do and knew the law very well. He specializes in DCF cases and that’s pretty much all he does, so having someone that’s an expert in that field really just put my mind at ease. Were they going to take our kids? Were they going to put us through a year of this or a year of that? Having somebody that said,” No, this is what’s going to happen. This is what we’re going to do.” And seeing it go that way. It’s not just that he said it was going to happen this way, it did happen that way.
It just allowed me to get back to living my life. It really affected my kids having DCF come into our house and us being scared of it and intimidated. They were not sure what to make of it. And then having Attorney Seaver there with us really allowed my kids to relax. They had fun with him and his associates that came in. He always had at least one other person with him to help make sure the house was up to what they wanted to see and that the kids were going to be taken care of at all times. So even when we were talking with DCF somebody was there with our kids.
When DCF started a case against us I was really scared that they were going to take my children, and that they were going to end up in a foster home and that I wouldn’t be able to see them. I thought about trying to talk to the DCF on my own and trying to muddle my way through DCF law and figure out what they can and can’t do and how to approach it. It just overwhelmed me. I’m pretty smart and I know basic law, but the idea that I was going to lose my kids, it was a lot.
Hiring Attorney Seaver was probably the best decision we made in that time period. He came in and put our minds at ease and gave us a plan and gave us a path forward that allowed me and my family to stay together and keep our kids in the house. Looking back, I thought about… This is a lot of money to spend to hire an attorney. I’m so glad I spent the money. I can always make more money. Losing my kids, it’s just… You can’t get that time back. Even if it was just six months, you can’t get that time back. And what happens to them when they’re out in custody in somebody’s home you don’t even know?
Some of those foster situations you hear nightmares about. By the time the whole case was over DCF was happy with us and they were friendly with us. At the beginning they definitely were trying to take our kids, and Attorney Seaver made it possible for us to keep our kids and made the whole thing a happy ending. We’re really grateful to Attorney Seaver for turning this really negative situation into a positive.
